The GE-branded Smart Fan Control replaces a switch that only controls fans - lights must be on a separate switch.

Fans with lights require three wires (typically red, black, white) from the wall box to the fan-light, plus line and ground wires to connect the GE-branded Smart Fan Control to the fan and a separate GE-branded Smart Switch or Dimmer for the light.

If the wall box only has two wires (white, black) running to the fan light, a GE-branded Smart Switch will control power for both the light and fan.
